Important information & advice


Arrival & Departure Please be approximately 2 hours prior to departure at the check-in counter of your respective airline. If you booked a transfer, you will be picked up at the airport / terminal.
In Cebu airport, after claiming your luggage and passing through customs you leave the arrival hall via the right exit. Just outside you will see a staff member of our partner company with a sign board with your name / Bohol Sea Resort. The driver will bring you to the pier and provide you with the tickets. Depending on the ferry company you have free luggage allowance of 15 - 20 kg. The trip to Tagbilaran, Bohol will be approx. 1 hour 30 - 45 minutes.
In Tagbilaran pier or airport you will be picked up again by a driver and be taken in a car/van to the Bohol Sea Resorts, a trip of roughly 30 min.

Please do not forget for the departure to re-confirm your flight at the latest 72 hours prior to departure (if required by your airline). At Cebu the terminal fee is approx. 100 Pesos / 550 Pesos for domestic and international flights respectively. In Manila the rates are roughly 200 and 750 Pesos respectively.

Entry regulations & Visas For the compliance of visas, customs, vaccination each traveler you are responsible. Bringing of foreign currency is possible, however you have to declare any amount equaling or above the value of US$ 3,000.

Most citizens will automatically get a free 21-day tourist visa upon entry in the Philippines. You require a valid return flight ticket and a passport with at least 6 months validity at the time of departure. The visa can be extended with the Bureau of Immigration initially by 38 days and then several times for additional 59 days. At Immigrations, please do not wear short pants and slippers. It is likely that your visa extension will not be considered.

Health & Medical system The weather in the Philippines is a humid, sub-tropical climate. Seek your doctor's advice, especially if you wish to scuba dive. He/She can provide you with a medical statement, that you are fir for diving. Please bring any medication you require. The supply of medication is rather good via the extensive chains of pharmacies and drugstores. Please bring sufficient sunblock to protect against the sun. Please do not drink any tap water - distilled water is available anywhere at low cost.
We recommend to have current vaccination against tetanus, diphtheria and hepatitis. A Malaria prophylaxis is advised to trips in Northern Luzon and Palawan. Bohol and Cebu are malaria free zones. Please consult your local institution for current information.
The medical system of the Philippines with approx. 1600 hospitals is rather good. The clinics and hospitals are usually run by doctors educated by Western standards. Many doctors have been educated or worked in the United States before. Please ensure you have proper health insurance.

Money & Currencies The official currency of the Philippines is the Philippine Peso (PHP). Currently the exchange rate is about 60 Pesos per Euro and 42 Pesos per US$ (as of September 2011). You can easily exchange Euro, US$ or Travellerschecks at the numerous “Money-Changer” and banks without problems. Cashing of Travellerschecks will require the original purchase receipt and a passport for security reasons. You can get Pesos at the airport, but we recommend to exchange only a low quantity, better rates are usually found outside the airport.

Climate & Weather From June to October, the Philippines is considered to have rainy season and from March until May it is typically hot and dry.
The average temperature usually does not drop below 27° C while the water usually has between 26° C and 29° C. Humidity is 77 % on average.
The weather system of the Philippines is influenced by many factors and therefore forecast for local weather is almost impossible. The seasonal weather change is usually less significant in the central and Southern parts. In Bohol the "rainy season" is much less rainy. The occasional rain shower however is common at this time of year.

Culture & Religion We recommend casual summer clothing. "Beach outfit" and too casual clothing might not be appropriate nor polite on trips to churches or other cultural destinations and sights.
82% of the Filipino population is Roman Catholic and partially very religious. Lutherans, Buddhists and Taoists are also found. The Muslim population are the second-largest group and live mainly in the Southern islands around Mindanao and the Sulu-Sea.
The national language is Tagalog, while in the Visayas, the language of Visaya is spoken most commonly. However, for business & official documents English is used.

Photography All cities and tourist centers have the most film roles available, but as typical, sufficient stock is not guaranteed. We therefore recommend to bring sufficient film roles. When developing the films, ask for the advice of people living here.
Being shy have having pictures taking is not a Filipino trait, but out of respect you should nevertheless get approval to take pictures. Usually, a friendly smile and a quick gaze suffice. Of course, please be reminded that taking pictures of airfields and military installations is prohibited as well as in most museums.

Car rental You will find the international car rental businesses in any major city in the Philippines. Local companies are also common and often cheaper. You will require an International Drivers License to rent a car. More common and more relaxing is to rent a car / van including a driver. Please make sure that the vehicle is in good condition, especially the horn. You should check the insurance coverage and if a minimum age is required.
Right side driving is the law in the Philippines. Other traffic laws and signs are similar to the international, but they are more of an advice and not followed too strictly. Usually the bigger will get the right of way.

Tip & Service charge In general, a tip of 10% is expected in the service business, but not mandatory. If you are very happy about the service, you are expected to give more. Do consider, that often the tip is the only means of income for a waiter in the simple eateries.
If a service charge is applied, an additional tip should be only given in exceptional cases.

Scuba diving Participants in our dive offers have to provide a medical statement to prove they are fit for diving and show their certification card plus logbook. All dive rates are inclusive of tank, weight and boat ride. If you require further equipment, you may rent from us. Our tanks have INT tank valve, so please bring an adapter if you use a DIN regulator. Dive torches can be charged in the dive shop.

Misc. The voltage provided is commonly 220 Volt. Most power sockets are made for US plugs, so you should bring adapters for your chargers and other electrical appliances. Please be aware, that the voltage is not as stable as in Europe or America, also power outages do occur. It is a good idea to have a small torch just in case.
The time is CET plus 7 hours. The Philippines has no day-light saving.
