The Philippines are a paradise made up of more than seven thousand islands, located between the continents of Asia and Australia. Its closest neighbors are Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, China and Taiwan. In the past the Philippines as been influenced mainly by Malayan, Chinese, Spanish and finally American culture and economics. This mix makes for an exceptional Asian-Western culture. As an example, the Philippines is the only country in Asia with a population of more than 80% Roman-Catholic.

This is what the Boholanos call their island - and not without reason. In addition to scenic untouched beaches, mountainsides and the well known Chocolate Hills, Bohol also offers cultural witnesses and a heritage of the past, for example one of Asia's oldest Catholic cloisters at the Loboc-River.
